Frequently asked questions

Why should I use a professional editing service?

If English is not your first language, producing a high-quality manuscript can be arduous. Even when your manuscript is complete, you may not be certain that you have conveyed your ideas accurately or that your paper is of an acceptable standard for publication. Or you may simply prefer to spend your time in the lab or clinic instead of struggling with your manuscript?

Does Medactie accept documents other than manuscripts and grants?

Yes. We will edit any document that you need edited or rewritten. We charge a minimum starting fee of 65 euros (ex. taxes) for all documents. You will only pay more if your word count exceeds this sum, based on our standard fee table (see Pricing & Quotes)

Is it possible to have work done that is not covered by your standard services?

What if I have remarks or questions?

Please submit your remarks and questions via the contact form. We will do our very best to reply promptly. If you have pressing questions, feel free to give us a call. You can find our number under ‘Contact’

How can I submit my manuscript for editing?

Under the heading ‘Contact’, go to the Order form and indicate the type, level and speed of service you require. You can also upload your manuscript and additional files here 

In which format should I provide my work?

Please use Microsoft Word and include all text and tables in the same document, if possible. Your edited document will be returned to you with changes visible (use the ‘track changes’ function of your MS Word reviewing toolbar). If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, please contact us before submitting your document

Which system of spelling and grammar should I choose?

Medactie recommends US spelling and grammar. The UK system of spelling/grammar can be used if preferred or required by a specific journal. Medactie can edit your manuscript to conform to either system

How do I know that you have received my documents?

When you upload your files via the Order form, you will see a “Thanks, Bedankt” message, indicating that your files have been received. Once your documents have been initially reviewed, an email quote will be prepared confirming the services requested and indicating costs

How will I be billed?

Once editing has been completed, your document will be returned together with an invoice. We kindly ask you to arrange payment within 14 days. You can pay by regular IBAN bank transfer, or via PayPal if you prefer

Do you offer discounts?

Yes. Returning customers will receive a 10% loyalty discount. All you have to do is indicate in the order form that you are a returning customer, and you will automatically receive the discount. You can also introduce colleagues (even those at other institutions) who will then qualify for an immediate discount. Due to our already discounted rates for translations, discounts do not extend to translation projects

Will I have to pay taxes (btw)?

All quoted prices are exclusive of taxes. Tax rates depend on where you are. If you are in the Netherlands your invoice will include 21% btw. If you are in another European Union (EU) member state you will not be charged taxes if you can provide a valid tax number (contact your institutional financial department for this information). Please remember to provide your tax number before the billing stage otherwise you will be billed for taxes. You will not be charged for taxes if you are based outside of the European Union

What about confidentiality?

Medactie undertakes to keep your work confidential, and will not use or communicate the contents, either electronically, physically or verbally to any person other than the submitting customer or a third person designated by the customer
